A: Sun protection clothing provides a health-conscious and easy way to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays. This type of clothing is made of fabric that’s been treated and/or manufactured to filter out UV rays. You’ll find each garment comes with a UPF, or ultraviolet protection factor, which indicates the level of protection it provides.

A: Unbleached cotton contains natural lignins that act as UV absorbers. Shiny polyesters and even lightweight satiny silks can be highly protective because they reflect radiation. High-tech fabrics treated with chemical UV absorbers or dyes prevent some penetration from UV rays. Fit: Loose-fitting apparel is preferable.
